WHAT IS RIVAL JIU-JITSU

Here at Rivals, we teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Brazilian jiu-jitsu focuses on getting an opponent to the ground in order to neutralize possible strength or size advantages through ground fighting techniques and submission holds involving joint-locks and chokeholds. On the ground, physical strength can be offset or enhanced through proper grappling techniques.

Why Brazilian jiu-jitsu?

Self Defense:

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) has become a popular martial art and self-defense system used by law enforcement and military personnel around the world. This is due to the effectiveness of BJJ techniques in close-quarter combat situations where grappling and ground fighting techniques are required. BJJ provides an array of techniques such as throws, takedowns, joint locks, chokes, and submissions, which can be used to subdue suspects or enemies without causing severe injury or fatalities. Furthermore, BJJ training enhances situational awareness, reaction time, and critical thinking skills of law enforcement and military personnel, making them better equipped to handle potentially dangerous situations.

BJJ has also been incorporated into the training programs of various law enforcement agencies and military units, including the US Army Special Forces and Navy SEALs. The techniques learned in BJJ training have been adapted to suit the needs of the military, especially in combat situations where soldiers may need to engage in hand-to-hand combat. BJJ training teaches soldiers how to effectively defend themselves and incapacitate their enemies without using lethal force, which is critical in situations where preserving human life is of utmost importance. BJJ has also been shown to improve physical fitness, mental toughness, and resilience, all of which are important qualities for military personnel to possess.

Physical Benefits:

One of the most notable benefits of BJJ is improved physical fitness. BJJ training involves a full-body workout that can improve cardiovascular health, strength, flexibility, and endurance. Practicing BJJ also promotes weight loss and muscle gain, making it an effective way to achieve and maintain a healthy body composition. Additionally, regular training in BJJ can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure.

Mental Health Improvements:

BJJ can also have significant mental health benefits. The practice of BJJ requires focus, discipline, and problem-solving skills, which can improve cognitive function and mental acuity. BJJ training can also reduce stress and anxiety levels, promote relaxation, and improve overall mental well-being. Moreover, BJJ provides a sense of community and camaraderie, which can improve social connections and emotional support networks. Finally, BJJ training can promote self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-awareness, all of which can positively impact overall mental health and quality of life.
